World Book Day

To celebrate our love of reading and the power of imagination, our school celebrated World Book Day with lots of exciting activities. From the moment the school gates opened, it was evident that this special day would be a brilliant busy book-filled adventure. The playground, corridors and classrooms were transformed into a living library, as staff and children arrived at school dressed as their favourite characters.

From classic fairytale characters to modern day superheroes, the effort and creativity from our families was truly spectacular. The whole school was buzzing with excitement as the children and staff shared the stories behind their outfits. We would like to say a huge congratulations to those children who were awarded for having the best outfit.

Our celebrations included meeting the legendary children’s author and poet, Michael Rosen. His energy brought the magic of his stories to life and created a fantastic atmosphere which captivated the audience – everyone listened carefully to his well known stories.

The excitement doesn’t stop there! Our pupils stepped into the land of Oz during our “Wonderful Wizard of Oz” workshop. This immersive experience allowed children to explore themes of courage, kindness, and thoughtfulness – three essential ingredients for a great story and a fantastic role model. The workshop was a hive of activity, as children explored the classic story of the yellow brick road through role play and motion.

Lunchtime was also included in the day’s events. Our catering team, Olive Dining, prepared a delicious World Book Day themed lunch. What a great opportunity to come together and talk about the events of the morning.

Remember books are not just for World Book Day, it is so important to keep reading at home every day. We want all children to reach their Gold Reading Award over the Summer Term.
