RISE Events – Open Schools Fortnight

The Devonshire Hill Nursery & Primary School is proud to host events as part of the RISE Open Education Fortnight. We are inviting educational professionals to join our workshop, ‘High Expectations and Inclusion in Class: Phonics, Writing, and Humanities’. Our goal is to showcase how a curriculum built on inclusion results in outcomes that exceed high expectations.

What to Expect

Join us in person for an inspiring, hands-on session dedicated to raising the bar for every learner. Our educators will demonstrate how a curriculum rooted deeply in inclusion can deliver outcomes that show attainment well above national averages in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics by the end of Key Stage 2.

Our curriculum builds strong foundations in EYFS and Key Stage 1. Pupils develop a deep understanding of learning across their learning and produce work of consistent high quality in all subject areas. Rigorous, systematic learning support is provided to pupils with additional needs to ensure that they make excellent progress from their individual starting points.

  • Live Learning & Pedagogical Excellence: Step into our classrooms to observe high-quality teaching in action. See first-hand how we maintain absolute fidelity to our carefully chosen programs, driven by a school-wide culture of high expectations.
  • Staff in Action with ‘WalkThrus’: Witness our teachers utilising evidence-based WalkThrus strategies to ensure every pupil is rigorously  supported to make outstanding progress from their starting points.
  • Our Phonics Pedagogy & Collaborative Training: See our precise phonics delivery in action, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how our colleagues rehearse with each other to maintain high standards.
  • The Power of ‘Talk for Writing’: Discover how we use this approach across the entire school to create a clear, high-impact progression of skills. You’ll also meet our Talk for Writing Champions to discuss measurable impact.
  • ‘Opening Worlds’ in Humanities: Explore our highly successful approach to teaching Humanities, and see how we bridge core literacy skills with the wider curriculum to produce work of a consistently high quality.
  • Student & Evidence Showcases: Review portfolios of exceptional pupil work, and take the opportunity to speak directly with our pupils about their knowledge, their learning journey, and our curriculum.
