Y6 RSE Sessions

Thursday 11th June 2026

Year 6 RSE Sessions

Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of our Jigsaw PSHE programme, this half term we are focussing on the topic of ‘Changing Me.’

For Year 6 children, this will include sessions about self-image, puberty, conception and the year ahead.
I will be holding two information sessions for parents about the content of the lessons and how it is taught at Devonshire Hill. These will be held in our conference centre on:

Thursday 18th June – 9:05-9:35am
Friday 19th June – 2:30-3:00pm

The Jigsaw curriculum includes sex education to prepare our children for life in a rapidly changing world, ensuring that they understand and respect the diverse world in which they are growing up. We are writing to you to let you know that we intend to deliver the Sex Education aspect of our PSHE Jigsaw
programme to our Year 6 children on Tuesday 7th July.

At the end of this session, children will be able to describe how a baby develops from conception through the nine months of pregnancy to birth. Sessions will be taught by your child’s class teacher.

Parents/carers can request to withdraw their children from Sex Education during primary school. At The Devonshire Hill Nursery and Primary School we define Sex Education as ‘Human Reproduction’. Work on puberty is now included in statutory Health Education and therefore is mandatory. Children cannot
be withdrawn from these lessons.

If you would like to withdraw your child, as stated above, you will be required to meet with the Headteacher and put your request in writing.

Our Relationships, Sex and Health Education Policy is available to read on our school’s website, along with
an overview of topics taught within our Jigsaw Programme.

Please contact me if you require any more information regarding this.
Yours Sincerely,
Rachel Bates | Assistant Headteacher and SENCo
