Year 5 Workshop – Penguin Books
Dear Parent/Carer,
Please see the below information from Penguin Books UK regarding their upcoming workshop for children in Year 5.
We are delighted that our Year 5 pupils will be taking part in a special reading workshop delivered by volunteers from Penguin Books UK as part of the National Year of Reading 2026 on Thursday 2nd July.
Led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust, the National Year of Reading is a year-long campaign to inspire more children and young people to read for pleasure. The campaign aims to celebrate the benefits of reading, encourage positive reading habits and help every child discover stories, authors and topics that spark their imagination.
As part of this national initiative, Penguin volunteers will be visiting our school to deliver an interactive workshop designed to show that reading can be fun, social and connected to pupil’s own interests. Through a range of engaging activities, pupils will explore books linked to topics they already enjoy, including football, gaming, comedy, mystery, science and adventure.
During the workshop, children will:
- Meet volunteers from Penguin Books, the UK’s largest publisher.
- Discover a range of exciting children’s books through interactive games and activities.
- Explore how different books appeal to different readers and interests.
- Receive a Reading Adventure Book packed with activities, recommendations and reading inspiration to take home.
To help pupils continue their reading journey after the workshop, Penguin Books will also be donating a selection of new books to our school library. We are delighted to be taking part in this initiative and look forward to sharing this exciting experience with our pupils.
