Y5 Tottenham Hotspur Competition

Monday 19th February 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are writing to inform you of a very exciting competition which has been

offered to the Year 5 children by Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club in collaboration with children’s author Dan Freedman. Every child is encouraged to participate and the details are outlined below so that you can support your child to make the most of this fantastic opportunity.

COMPETITION: Spurs Short Story
Children from three Haringey primary schools have been invited to write an imaginative short story with the theme of ‘Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’.
All entries must be with your class teacher by morning registration on Monday 26 February.

How will you include THFC into your story?
You could write about a trip to the stadium that ends in disaster; a mysterious item found in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium; a post-match press conference gone wrong; a winning goal in the FA Cup Final…the possibilities are endless, be as unique and imaginative as you can.

What happens next?
The children in your class will vote for the two entries that they enjoyed reading the most.  Your class teacher will then send the chosen two stories to be judged by children’s author Dan Freedman.

The final…at Tottenham Stadium
Year 5 have been invited on a special trip to attend the final of the competition on Friday 8 March. Children will enjoy a stadium tour, Q&A time with award winning author Dan Freedman, and some awards and prizes to celebrate the winning writer and all participants. Children will walk to and from the venu and are expected to arrive back at school before the end of the school day.

Please note the following:

  • If you require any writing materials to help your child take part in this competition please speak with your class teacher or visit the Office.
  • All children are entitled to school funded lunch for the trip. If you do not require a school funded lunch then please notify the school and supply a  healthy packed lunch and refillable bottle of water on the day of this trip.
  • Children must be dressed in full school uniform, including black school shoes.
  • Please ensure they are also prepared for the current weather. A waterproof jacket must also be provided.

Yours Sincerely,
Ms Cassandra Alexis & Mr Sunny Singh | Year 5 Class Teachers
