Tottenham Hotspur Foundation – Y4 Garnet GULP Project
Dear Parents/Carers,
Our school is participating in an important project in collaboration with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. We are launching a PSHE programme aimed at raising awareness of the harms associated with sugary drinks while promoting improved well-being, dental care, and oral health for our pupils.
The programme is part of a wider initiative involving schools across Enfield and Haringey.
The campaign, called GULP (Give Up Loving Pop), is supported by Food Active and Healthy Stadia and specifically designed for Year 4. GULP helps raise awareness of the health risks linked to the overconsumption of sugary drinks. While many are aware of how these drinks can damage teeth, fewer people realise that excessive sugary drink consumption is also connected to issues such as weight gain, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, sugary drinks have been linked to attention and behavioural difficulties in young children, which can affect their progress in school.
GULP PSHE programme aims to:
- Encourage children to think critically about sugary drinks and their health impacts.
- Teach skills to help identify sugary drinks.
- Promote the benefits of water for both learning and physical performance.
- Provide healthy alternatives to sugary drinks.
The programme consists of five sessions, each lasting one hour. It includes both classroom-based learning and, in some cases, physical activities to reinforce the lessons.
Each session will engage pupils in discussion, interactive learning, and activities to help them make informed, healthy choices. These sessions will take place during our regular PSHE lessons over the coming weeks, and we are confident that this will be a valuable addition to the children’s learning.
The first session will take place on Tuesday 17th June 2025.
Please note that sessions for Crystal Class children will follow at a later date.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Slav Anisowicz | Year 2 Class Teacher – Leader for PE & PSHE
