Dear Parent/Carer,
The Deputy Mayor for Children and Families, Joanne McCartney has confirmed that she will visit our school in celebration of our ‘Water Only’ approach. A water only school means that water is the only drink available to children during the school day (apart from milk in our EYFS setting). All Children in Year 4 and those who are on the School Council will participate in this event which will include a question and answer session with Joanne McCartney.
Some of the questions which children will be asked are outlined below. To include our whole school community we encourage all families to use these questions at home in order to open up a discussion in support of our ‘Water Only’ approach and in preparation for this upcoming event.
Questions and Answers about Water Only & Free School Meals:
Q: Why do you think it’s important for us to drink lots of water?
A: examples: dental health, reduced sugar intake, healthy hydration and concentration.
Q: Why do you like being a Water Only School? How has being a Water Only School helped you?
A: example: health and environmental benefits, and positive behaviour changes.
Q: How can other schools be encouraged to be water only?
A: discuss ideas which encourage others and to engage with other schools
Q: Why do you think free school meals are important?
A: example: health, wellbeing
Year 4 and School Council Photo Opportunity:
During the event there will be a photo opportunity for our children and families. In order to participate you are required to complete the photo permission form which is provided by the Greater London Authority. A copy of this form will be sent home with your child at the end of the school day – this must be returned to your class teacher no later than Wednesday 13 March (morning registration).
Parent/Carer invitation:
Parents/Carers of children in Year 4 and on the School Council are invited to join us for this occasion

Hydration reminder:
A reminder that drinking water keeps your brain hydrated, healthy and ready for learning. Please remember to send your child to school with a reusable bottle of fresh water every day.
