Dear parents/carers,
I hope this letter finds you well. As the Headteacher of The Devonshire Hill Nursery & Primary School, I am writing to you today to share some important information about our school community.
We are immensely proud to be an inclusive school that is popular with parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Currently, we have 65 pupils on our SEND register, which equates to 18% of our pupil population. This figure is significantly higher than the averages for Haringey Maintained (non special) Primary Schools and nationally. It is important to note that we are not a specialist provision, but rather a mainstream school that is dedicated to supporting the diverse needs of all pupils.
Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), Ms Bates, is working tirelessly to support these 65 families and their children, some of whom have very complex needs. This involves completing referrals and assessments, attending meetings, having conversations with professionals, conducting in-class observations, and providing advice and training to our teachers and learning support staff.
Educating and caring for a significant number of SEND children and their families, requires patience and compassion from everyone. I want to reassure you that Ms. Bates is applying her best endeavours to make sure that every child receives the support and attention they rightfully deserve. We appreciate your patience and understanding, especially in situations involving delays during times of limited capacity. We are committed to maintaining our inclusive ethos and providing a nurturing environment where all children can thrive.
