School Vision & Ethos – Successful Learners

Dear Parents/Carers,

Stars Achievement Badges for Exceptional Achievements:
The school introduced Star Achievement Badges for Exceptional Achievements eleven years ago in response to parents of high achieving pupils wanting recognition of their child’s commitment, determination and high academic performance. This is a very important part of our School Ethos to recognise and celebrate the highest of academic achievement.

Stars are awarded for exceptional pieces of work, and parents should be incredibly proud of their child/ren’s performance. Pupils are therefore required to wear their star badges as part of our school uniform. Our pupils are highly successful learners, who are working incredibly hard to earn their stars.

If your child has mislaid or broken their badge(s) a replacement can be paid for in the Arbor shop at a cost of £2 each.

Should you wish to do so, your child can remove their Star Badges at the end of the day on Friday and place them in their named drawer in class ready to put back on first thing on Monday morning, however, the school will not be responsible for their safe keeping.

School Uniform Policy:
The Governors of the school expect all pupils to wear full school uniform which includes black school shoes. Pupils not wearing full school uniform will be in breach of the school’s behaviour policy, and their parent/carer will be contacted to bring the correct uniform/shoes into school.

The school uniform policy states that the only jewellery pupils are allowed are stud earrings and a wrist watch. Pupils are not allowed to wear any other jewellery to school. Should you wish to make a request for your child to wear an item of jewellery for religious reasons then you are required to arrange to meet the Headteacher so a risk assessment and waiver form can be completed and signed.

Parents are advised to send their child/ren in with an old pair of trainers to wear when on the school field during lunchtimes, this is for pupils in years 3, 4, 5, & 6.  Due to health & safety children will only be permitted to use the trim trail (on the field and in the front playground) when wearing suitable trainers/plimsolls that they have changed into.

Increasingly, older pupils are wearing black trousers/skirts to school, this is not permitted and is therefore a breach of the behaviour policy and will be acted upon as such.

For your information, the revised and updated School Uniform Policy and requirements can be accessed on the school website at www.devonshirehill.com

Yours sincerely,
Julie D’Abreu – Headteacher
