Our Eco-School Initiative | School Streets

Wednesday 6th March 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be aware our school is officially an Eco-School and has been since 2022 following the fantastic efforts from our pupil lead School Council. In addition to this our school is now located in a School Street Zone and has been since our return in September 2023. We strongly encourage our families to walk/scoot/cycle to school, especially now that the weather is improving. If your journey involves using a vehicle please be mindful of the local residents at all times by parking responsibly and turning off your ignition.

To find out more about our eco led initiatives please visit our new webpage: www.devonshirehill.com/eco-schools/

Small changes have a big impact:
Below are some suggestions which we encourage our families to consider in support of our eco initiative:

  • Walk/Wheel/Cycle to school as often as possible
  • If you must drive turn off your ignition – don’t idle your car
  • Always use a refillable water bottle (not single use)
  • Include reusable items in your lunchbox and recycle your packaging at home
  • Donate clean good quality uniform for our pre-loved uniform rail
  • Upcycle or use recyclable materials for your Home Learning Projects

Eco Inspired Competitions:
Below are some eco inspired competitions which we encourage you to take part in:

Haringey Active Travel and Health Team Need your help!

We are looking for schools to URGENTLY design an Air quality and Anti idling banner that we can display outside your schools. Children are invited to create a drawing or piece of art to help us spread the messages about Air Quality and anti-idling by vehicles outside of their school environment.

Return your design to your class teacher by morning registration on Monday 11th March.

The winning school will have their pictures produced as a banner that will be displayed at various schools in Haringey.

LEGO Competition: ‘Build the Change’
You could be in with a chance to win £2000 for your school to help fund a green initiative and a Build the Change LEGO kit! For more information: www.devonshirehill.com/letter/lego-build-the-change-competition/

Friends of Devonshire Hill (FODH):
If you are interested in offering your support with our eco-friendly initiative please come along to our upcoming FODH coffee morning on Friday 8 March to express your ideas and discuss with like minded parents/carers how your input could have a positive impact for our school.

Thankyou for your continued support,

Ms Hayley Dix | Communications Officer
