Dear Parents/Carers,
My name is Giuseppe Sollazzo and I’ve recently become the Chair of Governors at Devonshire Hill Nursery and Primary School.
I’m not new to the school community: I’ve been a governor for over 5 years, after I saw an advert through the local authority that suggested school governance as a way to give back to the community. I’ve lived in Haringey since 2008 and I think the community around us is, despite a lot of challenges, really strong and I believe that its school-age children deserve to receive a great education, something really important to improve their chances in life.
The governing body’s role is dual: we support the school in making sure the education is top notch by providing advice and direction, but we also challenge the leadership so that the school constantly improves and it is financially solid.
Governors try to reflect the community around the school while at the same time bringing in skills that support the school’s leadership. We have an incredibly committed staff community at the school, and the governors admire their work ethic. We have regular meetings with Ms D’Abreu and visit the school (currently, virtually!) in order to make sure that everything goes according to plan. The governing body would be happy to hear from any of you through your parent governor, Sarah Male (sarah.male@devonshirehill.haringey.sch.uk), should you have any idea on how we can better support the school and strengthen the link to the community, or if you have any concerns.
