Dear Parents/Carers,
Our Forest School Programme, that is taught outside of the classroom, is a very important part of our wider curriculum offer. Our school grounds provide a unique opportunity for your child to learn, explore and develop their knowledge of the natural world in our very own environment, March Wood. Every child is included and every child in Reception to Year 4 is timetabled once per week to have some of their learning outside. This learning is led by Mr Thomas, our Forest School Leader and your child’s class support staff. Two year groups that do not currently access Forest School are Year 5, as they are in the Disney Performance Project and Year 6 due to the demands of their SATs revision and preparation.
You will shortly receive a message to remind you of when your child will be taking part and we ask that you send your child into school in warmer, waterproof clothing, with a pair of wellington boots so they can fully take part and engage with nature. We have a very limited number of ‘loan clothing’ for children to wear, so please make sure you know your child’s outdoor learning day and send them to school ready and prepared.
Please be assured that if the weather it is too hot, too cold, too wet or too windy Mr Thomas will defer the learning outside to shorter times or in extreme weather to learning inside.
Children really do love going into March Wood, when it was covered with snow it was truly magical!
