Competition: LIT Story Writing

Wednesday 12 March 2025

LIT 5, 50, 500 or 5000 Word Story Competition

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are excited to announce that the LIT 5, 50, 500, & 5000 Word story competition is back for 2025.

A total of thirteen educational establishments have been invited to participate and we believe that our young writers have an excellent chance of winning an award. Last year, two Year 4 children from our school were awarded an impressive third place and finalist following their superb stories.

All children from Nursery to Year 6 are encouraged to participate in this very exciting opportunity.
To take part simply submit your story to your class teacher by morning registration on:
Friday 28 March 2025

Children can choose whether to write a 5, 50, 500 or 5000 word story according to their age and ability.  Stories of 5 words can be accompanied by a picture, to support story-telling.
The story can be on any subject or topic of their choice.

All the stories must be:

  • either 5, 50, 500 or 5000 words – the title is not included in the word count.
It’s ok for children to submit a story that doesn’t quite reach or may exceed the word limits!
  • written by an individual – stories written by a group can’t be accepted
  • a child’s own original idea – which does not include personal details or recount a historical event
  • written in prose – can’t be rap or poem

Remember to:

  • submit to your class teacher by morning registration on Friday 28 March.
  • clearly write your name and class on your entry

All stories will be judged on: characterisation, plot, originality, language, and enjoyment.

The winners will be announced in early June.

Yours sincerely,

Julie D’Abreu | Headteacher
on behalf of Learning in Tottenham
