Wakefield House was chosen in memory of Priscilla Wakefield who was born in Tottenham in 1751. She is well known for her writing. Wakefield wrote seventeen books in two decades. Her interests lay in science, more specifically botany. Wakefield was involved in a number of charities these included a maternity hospital, and a Penny Bank for children. The Penny Bank successfully developed into England’s first savings bank.

The children and staff in Wakefield House are supporting The Wood Green Animal Shelter as their charity.
