Music is taught right across the school, from Nursery to Year 6 your child will develop an understanding of the different areas of Music, notation, composition and instrumentation.
Music is taught across the school in a variety of contexts, allowing your child to develop an understanding of different areas of music, including notation, composition and instrumentation.
Music education at Devonshire Hill includes opportunities to sing, play musical instruments, listen and appraise, compose, read and write music, and to perform. Children are encouraged to develop a knowledge of musical history, leading to an appreciation and understanding of a range of music from different traditions. This theoretical and practical teaching greatly enhance pupils’ musical thinking, in turn supporting your child’s listening skills, creativity and self-esteem.
We have a range of musical instrument tuition in school, including ukulele, drums, and guitar, which allow your child to practically engage with the subject, as well as exploring different sounds and tones. All pupils attend weekly singing assemblies and engage in termly singing performances for parents and carers. Our school choir (Y5/Y6) allows pupils to experience singing in a more professional environment, including performances in prestigious concert halls. These performances improve children’s confidence and develop their presentation skills.
